There are millions of websites out there and honestly there is quite a lot of second rate websites that could do with some polish. To make sure your website is not one of the ones that gets a back button vote follow these simple steps and you’ll be off to a good start.
Splash Pages
Splash pages are useless so don’t use them. Give your visitors useful information from the first moment they land on your page. Splash pages have no real purpose other than to look pretty. Your visitors will not appreciate the time taken to realize the page has no useful information.
Keep Banner Advertisements To A Minimum
Banner advertisements are not as effective as they use to be. Net savvy users have become banner blind so you’ll just be wasting valuable page real estate. Instead, put some more valuable content that your visitor can actually use with relevant affiliate links sprinkled throughout your text. Make your potential customer feel like he needs to buy instead of being pushed into buying.
Clear Navigation
Keep the navigation options on your page clear and concise. If somebody isn’t sure about where to go then they’ll more than likely click off your page. Don’t use complicated imagery or flashy banners and multi tiered drop down banners.
Make Sure Visitors Know Where They Are At
If a visitor is deeply engrossed in your site you will want to make it very clear exactly which part of your site they are currently visiting. This will make it easier for them to navigate to any section of your site very easily. Make sure the visitor does not become confused because that usually means “abandon ship”.
Avoid Using Audio
This doesn’t mean that you don’t use an informational audio presentation if the subject matter warrants it but rather the annoying looping audio that some sites like to use. The kind that just goes on and on and serves no real purpose. Get rid of it or make sure there is a very prominent off button they can click.
